8MR alternator upgrade

I have recently upgraded from a 55a Motorola to a 90a Leece Neville 8MR the B+ is where it should be and the body is grounded, the tach is wired as per the diagram, however when running the engine the tach barely registers and the ammeter is pegged (-60-+60). I tested the batteries and they test ok. Am I overlooking something? Should be pretty straight forward. The application is on a Universal M25XP marine engine. Thank you,
Mike

Good day Mike, what is the voltage output and amps if you can measure amps? And what is the exact part number you are using? Most of the 8MR alts are not case ground, you will need a ground wire to B- possibly. Maybe call our tech service line for more info, 866-288-9853, thanks.

Mark, thank you/ Yes I made up a ground wire B- from alt - to engine B- however the alternator is still pegging the ammeter (a -60 +60) meter. I'm at a bit of a loss here.
Thank you again.

Are you sure the amp meter is functioning correctly, and that the alternator is maxed out? What is the volts at the back of the alternator? And where does the the other end of the B+ cable go to? You do have battery voltage at the alternator, correct?? What is the exact part number you are using? It is possible you have a defective alternator, but I need more info.
