alternator output & specs

Looking at the alternator on my 1993 Catalina 34 sailboat, I read 'Prestolite Electric Co. 8RC2008A 146A 12V 51 Amps.'
Is this a fixed voltage output, and if so do you know what this voltage is? Also if it is fixed, can a modification be made to make it an adjustable output to be able to get about 14.4 volts? How do I find the specs for this alternator.

Thanks

Hello

The number you supplied (8RC2008A) appears to be a regulator number, at least we have a regulator in our system with that number. There should be another label on the alternator with the alternator number, probably starting with '8MR'.

I looked up all of the 12V 51A alternators we currently have listed, and none of them have adjustable regulators. To my knowledge we don't offer an adjustable regs on any of these units, although one of the tech folks would know better than me. Fixed voltage should be 14.2. [Oops, it's 14.4 plus/minus .4, see comment by Mark below]

Let us know if you can find any other numbers on the alternator, or try to take a picture and upload it for us.

Thanks,
David

Most of the older alternators had a fixed output of 13.6-.8V. I was wondering since I have this Mot./prestolite 8RC2008A 146A fixed reg. on the alternator that the output voltage should be higher than that? I have read different fixed outputs for newer fixed regulators of (14.2v or 14.4v) Do you know what the exact voltage output of this alternator and fixed reg. should be? I have some pictures of the alterantor but do not know how to attach them. The name plate is hard to read but I think it shows 8EM2017KA.

Thanks for you time.

Yeah, not sure on the exact output, I'll try to get one of the tech guys to chime in.

The part number is valid, but it's been superseded by a new part number of 8MR2091KSS, click the number to follow the link to the spec page.

You need to register to be able to upload photos, sorry forgot to mention that.
