Distributor

I am restoring a 1964 Willys Kaiser Jeep Pickup J300 Gladiator.
The manual lists the distributor part as Prestolite IAT 4416. I am trying to locate a new or replacement part but have had no luck so far. Was this same part used in other vehicles with a different part number? Any information would be helpful
Thank you
Gene

The Prestolite divisions which manufacture direct current (DC) motors, switches, contactors, and electronic ignition systems (distributors) were sold to Ametek in 2000.

Any questions regarding these kinds of parts should be directed to Ametek. Contact information can be found on their website at:

I have been trying to purchase a new distributor cap for the distributor on my Mercruiser 3.7L engine (165 HP) 4 cyl. The original distributor (I believe it was a Delco was replaced with a Prestolite distributor and the number on the inside of the cap is IBM-1007. I have spent several hours at several auto parts stores trying to locate this cap all to no avail. The cap has 4 ports for the spark plug wires and 4 cut off sealed ports where the other 4 ports would be if it were for an 8 cylinder engine. The inside of the cap has the 4 contact points and 4 blank plastic areas where there are no spark plug ports above. I have cleaned (sanded) the contact points on the inside but I really would like to purchase a new cap. Please contact me with the availability of this cap and also the age of the distributor
and also if it is a marine or auto distributor. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Ron,

We sold that business but I would recommend contacting our distributor in Florida.

Below you will find their contact information.

mercury marine superseeded the original dist. to the prestolite and doesn't show the replacement parts in the current epc. The parts are listed in the 2011 paper parts manual. Your cap should #810827t01.

Hello Ron:

You can purchase a replacement cap at any Mercruiser dealer if you ask for Quicksilver part # 810827T

There is no other cross reference; I stumbled onto your posting while searching for a cross-reference but have found none. These caps are not cheap - The Mercruiser dealer price is going to be in the range of about $40 - $50 for just the cap.

In a pinch I think you can use the eight-cylinder Prestolite cap, Sierra part number 18-5352, though I have never tried this. You would connect your plug wires to alternating terminals on the cap. I would recommend plugging the unused terminals with silicone sealer and wire boots, or fill them with epoxy to prevent stray discharges and sparks. You don't want to ignite a fire on board.

I have a 1986 Mercruiser 2.5L 120HP 4-cyl engine which has a Prestolite distributor as a replacement for the original DELCO distributor and this is the same cap as the one you have.

Yes, this is a marine engine distributor offered as a replacement for the Delco; Quicksilver # 816129A1.

The number IBM-1007 is an AMETEK part number; AMETEK manufactures these parts under the Prestolite label.

The Fire Department that I belong to has a 1934 American LaFrance truck. It has a Leese Neville #9363A distributor. The engine is a BA6 Buda .I am looking for a points set, condensor, rotor and cap. Do you have access to these parts?

Thanks, Donald Kern

Unfortunately we sold that part of our business a few years ago to a company called Ametek, you can find contact information here.

I also took a quick look at the American LaFrance website, and they have a section on locating legacy parts for their firetrucks, you might want to try there.

Wish I could help out more, good luck!
