Put a new alt. 8LHA207OVF on our International tanker truck for fire dept. and it's only putting out 11.5 volts. Does this have to be excited to start All cables where disconected before start of the work and we have a battery shut off switch also in line to the batterys. Tried a running it a couple times but still only put out on the rear terminal off the alt 11.5 volts

Good day, the only thing you need to make that alternator work is a good positive and negative cable going to it. Make sure you have battery voltage to the back of the alternator, otherwise it sounds like you have a defective alternator. Are there only the 2 cables going to this alternator?? Thanks
